When a person feels miserable of their personal problems, they start using Soulful Doing approach to create a personal project that transforms their emotional experiences into a feeling of self-healing because they just entered a creative flow where their inner child feels at peace.
It can be used in 60 minutes or 66 days, depending on how deep the person wants to go to.
How it works?
To use this method write down FAT (feel, act, think) in three columns on the wall or a sheet of paper:
In the "Feel" column, do this:
-
Write down your answer to: How am I feeling now?
E.g. Say I write down "fear"
-
Underneath, write down your answer to: Does it have any shape? Sketch it.
E.g. Say I write down a cactus and sketch a cactus (that is how fear feels to me at that moment)
-
Underneath, write down your answer to: How would I like to feel instead? Sketch it.
E.g. Say I write down "excitement" and sketch a balloon
-
Underneath, write down your answer to: What do you need to merge your first sketch with a second one?
E.g. Say I write down - "I need orange colours". And I sketch a baloon-like-cactus with an orange pen.
Now, move to the Act column, and do these steps:
1) Write down your answer to: If I were to turn this sketch into a creature, how would I call it? Sketch a smile to your drawing and write down a name.
E.g. Say I write down "orakakis" (it makes me laugh) and add a smile to my ballon-cactus.
2) Write down your answer to: If this "add a name here" would be of service to others, what would it do? Name this imaginary profession.
E.g. Say I write down "entertains people" and "teaching clown".
3) Now, sketch a taster of this service. Imagine, your want to experience this service, how the journey would look like? Sketch it as comics. Make four squares and doodle a situation that is about how your service works.
E.g. I'm sketching a teacher clown making balloons out of cactus with kids.
Now, move on to the last column: Think. Follow the steps.
1 - Write down your answer to: How does it feel now?
E.g. I write down "I feel curious about where this journey will take me..."
Follow Up: People are free to continue playing with the metaphors they came up with and use it in their personal project. If they do so, they are asked to reflect on how they are feeling when they spend time on their project.
Note: This idea is inpired by art therapy and NLP, and practical creative activities in general.
I wonder, would this work for people? Anyone up for trying it out? :)
